new york fashion week is underway. marc jacobs has already shown (over 60 outfits, straight out of the 80s, for which we would rather pay $5 at a thrift store than $5000. anyway) as have alexander wang, boy by band of outsiders, threeasfour, diane von furstenburg, victoria beckham (hm), peter som, rag & bone, etc, etc. style.com has already pointed to “nerd glasses” as a “micro trend”, because apparently they didn’t know. calls for “a new sobriety” and “tasteful restraint” have resulted in yet more pairs of high-waisted genie pants, dressed up as a new idea. there seems to be a fishy idea floating around that recession fashion = already done fashion. but uh lest we sound cynical and overly-critical, which i promise we are not, i mean to be completely honest i still haven’t stopped wearing the tutu silhouette miu miu showed two years ago, and haven’t yet begun to buy slouchy pants and oversize blazers, we really do enjoy a lot of the clothes we’ve seen so far it’s just that nothing feels new anymore, anyway, here are some of our very very early favorite things.

according to jonny johansson on style.com, acne’s f/w 09 collection was inspired by a 70-year-old jewel-encrusted man sitting at cafe de flore in paris, and also artsy chicks from berlin.

we hope you know us well enough by now to know how we feel about inspirations such as these.

love, love, love love love.

wicked sharp geometricity, siiiiick platforms, nifty layering, a city-chic color scheme, and a general feeling of the sort of nonchalance that only comes with being too cool for school, have us all a-twitter.

i promised myself i wouldn’t end this with a stupid joke about acne the skin problem vs. acne the swedish fashion company whose name actually stands for “ambition to create novel expressions”.

i intend to keep that promise.

i am told by a friend that chloe sevigny is bitchy and acts entitled when standing on line for a club. which is fine, and also, whatever who really cares; nevertheless ms. sevigny remains my top choice for actress-i-would-most-want-to-play-me-in-the-movie-version-of-my-life.

(this will someday happen, i am sure. and she will dye her hair brown and shrink a few inches and the film that ensues will be lovely and well-received by critics and fans alike. also the soundtrack and costumes will be fieeerce.)

when questioned in pulse, karin nelson’s ny times column, she says, “I’m not feeling these modern, futuristic looks. It’s too hard. I love a frilly floral, and I always will. And I like minis. I tried to do a pencil skirt, but it looked too old. Lately I’ve been trying to dress sexier, but my version is still a little sad and frumpy and alternative.”

oh man, it is only a matter of time until we run into each other on the street and girlishly squeal over our mind-bogglingly similar style manifestos.

due to a lack of tv and/or hbo, i cannot watch my life twin on big love, but i saw this clip of her on vice‘s website once and have enjoyed it ever since (because she is snotty and know-it-all-y and i really like that about her):

as a girl who spends too much time on style.com, her actual knowledge of fashion trend history makes me really really happy. as does her companion’s moustache. as does the idea of having an expendable income big enough to buy a pair of balenciaga pants.

the end.
