am not usually the hugest fan of chanel — short tweed jackets don’t really do anything for me, and the whole denim + american flag thing a couple seasons back was grooosssss — however, the couture show this week in paris, was stunning.

the headpieces were designed by katsuya kamo, who must have made the most amazing paper snowflakes when he was in elementary school. fuck veils, this is what every lady should aspire to wear on her wedding day.

this jacket is also really really appealing:

most of the monochromatic runway shows lately have revolved around black, and mr. lagerfeld’s (almost) all-white show did a wonderful job of highlighting shape and texture in a color usually reserved for brides and babies.

we continue to long for the fanciful optimistic days of f/w 09. a pristine parade of ladies dressed in graphic white ensembles isn’t exactly the awe-inspiring haute couture we wanted to see; however, it is nice to see a designer who previously cited amy winehouse as his muse producing such a dreamy-not-trashy collection. thank you, karl.

found this headband on etsy. want it, desperately.

it reminds us of manish arora‘s spring/summer 08 show. especially his finale, a magical gown covered in technicolor butterflies. when the dress emerged, it made everyone in the room stand up and cheer; we suspect you would encounter the same reaction if you strapped on this headband and went, uh, anywhere.

then again, arora’s designs tend towards the psychedelic (we can very easily imagine tom wolfe describing said gown in the electric kool-aid acid test) whereas the headband is sorta sophisticated and stately. for the brave, but not too brave.

we think isabella blow would have approved.

sorry, all, for being so inconsistent lately.

the holiday season has resulted in much traveling, which often results in no computer, which results in no new posts.

on the plus side, it has also resulted in opportunities to dress up and put feathers in our hair.

new-years(photo taken by our friend nathan)

today we checked out wardrobe remix for the first time in a while, and we think the outfits and the photos are getting better. i.e., some of these stylish self portrait-ers might actually get their picture taken out on the street, if they would stop ogling their stylish selves in their bedroom mirrors.

wardrobe-remix-1(photo taken by solitaryconsignment) (she sorta reminds us of kenley, from project runway. in a good way)

wardrobe-remix-2(photo taken by xxchinadoll) (UGH we love the heart cut-out) (it reminds us of when we were younger, when we wouldn’t put sunscreen on some spot on our hip in the shape of a heart or star or whatever, in hopes of developing a nice sunburnt skin cancerous tattoo. it never worked)

wardrobe-remix-3(photo taken by stylesalvagesteve) (susie bubble‘s “boyf”) (is it weird that i know that?) (we really like odd pants, and enormous scarves)

the loveliness of wardrobe remix is, you don’t have to wait around for someone with a camera and a website to stumble across you as you stylishly stroll about the lower east side. instead, you have the camera, and here is a website, and all that stands between you and the development of a fashion fan base (for real, people are so damn complementary when they leave comments) is the difficulty of coming up with a decent username.

hooray, it is 2009.
